Legal Practice
Paul Miller is a commercial litigator who helps his clients successfully resolve their legal disputes through both negotiation and litigation. Paul joined Branch MacMaster after practicing law with the Seattle law firm of Montgomery Purdue Blankinship & Austin from 1998 to 2006. His distinguished academic background brings a sharp, energetic representation to clients in a variety of areas.
While at Montgomery Purdue Blankinship & Austin, he worked with clients on resolving disputes involving contracts, insurance coverage and defence, construction, professional licensing/discipline, and real property rights. Paul advised business clients on issues surrounding employment matters, including noncompetition agreements, protection of trade secrets and confidential information, and unpaid wage/overtime claims. He also represented national and local companies in product liability actions and franchise and product distribution.
Since joining Branch MacMaster and returning to his hometown of Vancouver in 2007, Paul has continued his development as a litigator, working extensively as a part of the firm’s class action and insurance coverage/defence practices.

- Obtained favorable arbitration verdict defending employee from trade secret and breach of loyalty claim of employer seeking $1.8 million in damages;
- Successfully appealed adverse insurance coverage trial decision to Court of Appeals;
- Successfully tried real estate co-tenant dispute and defended appeal to the Court of Appeals;
- Successfully obtained summary judgment regarding beneficiary rights to annuity payments of over $400,000;
- Obtained summary judgment regarding insured's right to coverage for almost $150,000 in business loss;
- Obtained summary dismissal of employee discrimination lawsuit seeking over $100,000 in damages;
- Regularly defended top Fortune 500 manufacturer in product liability lawsuits;
- Successfully appealed adverse corporate tax determination to Department of Revenue Appeals Division
